ABSTRACT

A virtual machine is an executable task consisting of an application, supporting software (such as ROM BIOS and MS-DOS), memory, and central processing unit (CPU) registers. The Virtual Memory Manager (VMM) can create multiple virtual machines. The first virtual machine created, called the system virtual machine, contains 16-bit Windows-based applications, Windows 32 applications, and threads created by Win32 applications. Other virtual machines are created for MS-DOS-based applications as they are started.
