ABSTRACT
The American Civil Liberties Union’s National Prison Project (NPP), a nonprofit organization funded by the ACLU Foundation, originated in 1972 in the aftermath of the Attica prison riots. The project is designed to safeguard adult and juvenile offenders’ Eighth Amendment rights to be free from cruel and unusual punishment.
