ABSTRACT
The unionization of correctional officers has emerged out of the general push toward unionization of civil service employees. Correctional officers were about the last group of public servants who formed unions. Today, almost all states have a correctional officers’ union. Like other criminal justice agents, correctional officers are legally prohibited from striking. Only seven states have recognized the right to strike by correctional officers’ unions.
