ABSTRACT
Cirrhosis is a histological diagnosis implying irreversible liver damage: a diffuse process of fibrosis with intervening nodular regeneration, resulting from previous hepatocellular necrosis.
Classification
Three types are recognized:
• Macronodular cirrhosis: characterized by fibrous septa and nodules of varying size, with islands of normal, regenerating tissue within the larger nodules.
