ABSTRACT

Cholangiocarcinomas may arise from any portion of the biliary tree and their site determines the mode of presentation. All are adenocarcinomas and most present over the age of 65.

Carcinoma of the gall bladder

Although these tumours are slightly more common than cholangiocarcinomas elsewhere, they account for only 3-4% of all tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. Seventy percent of patients have coexistent gallstones. Congenital anomalies of the junction between the pancreatic duct and the common bile duct confer an increased risk.
