ABSTRACT
HCV, an RNA virus, is the commonest cause of post-transfusion and communityacquired non-A, non-B hepatitis and cryptogenic cirrhosis. There are an estimated 300 million carriers worldwide-1.4% of the US population and up to 4-6% of those living in parts of Africa and the Middle East.
