ABSTRACT

For the kind of work described in this book it is important that the children use standard size pencils which have a soft, dark leadÐB, 2B or 3B.

Larger pencils and crayons frustrate attempts to define detail, and it is useful to limit children to working without colour as a contrast to other aspects of the art curriculum. Using normal size pencils has the further advantage of providing an opportunity for the children to exercise the fine motor skills required for writing.
