ABSTRACT

Since 2001, the system of adult language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) provision in England has undergone major changes, prompted by the Labour government’s drive towards providing better education and training facilities for the entire population. In this chapter, I examine in depth the current policies for adult language, literacy, and numeracy in England. The aim of this chapter is to develop a critical understanding of these policies, using as a starting point the social view of literacy.
