ABSTRACT
This chapter is divided into two parts. Section 2.1 consists of three subsections which provide an overview of the types of phrases that occur in AA YE and give a general description of verb forms in the system. Section 2.1.1 provides an introduction to the types of phrases and compares them to their counterparts in Standard American English (SAE). Section 2.1.2 focuses on verb forms which occur in some phrases, explaining the patterns which arise in various paradigms. Section 2.1.3, the final subsection in 2.1, continues the discussion of these verb forms, paying attention particularly to the interaction between aspect and past morphology.
