ABSTRACT

To that end we describe first the general architecture of the system. We will see that the various organizations fall into different categories. We will deal with each category in a separate section. First, we will describe the roles of the major specialist independent organizations that deal with the trade system. Second, we describe the organizations that deal with the capital/finance issue. Third, we deal with the organizations that care for the other global public goods (environment, transport and communications, and labour). Last, we describe a group of intergovernmental organizations which have a less than world coverage, but who are nevertheless influent in global matters, such as the OECD and the G8. For each of these organizations we will briefly describe in a standard format its essential characteristics, subsequently its origins, its objectives and tasks, its membership and power structure, its internal structure and its instruments to enhance compliance with its objectives.
