Crafting and telling oral mathematical stories

The essence of this chapter spans a range of contexts: I observe Cassandra Wye, a professional storyteller, share oral stories with children in assembly gatherings in several schools; I observe workshops that follow oral storytellings where children dramatise mathematical ideas of stories such as ‘The Man Who Moved the Mountain’; I observe Cassandra train adults at conferences. Through these experiences I gain insight into how Cassandra as a professional storyteller steps into her storytelling zone, engaging with story, place and audience.
