ABSTRACT
Solar evaporation ponds are used extensively to remove excess water from leaching solutions, to concentrate brines, and to precipitate and harvest crystalline salts from saturated solutions. These are among the largest commercial applications of solar energy. Brine sources include: sea water, brine aquifers, playas or natural salt lakes, and solution mining of evaporites and salt domes.
