ABSTRACT

1 Letters are constantly being written from the court; and anything that becomes too common commands less respect. Unless there is something important, letters should not be sent from The Lofty Throne. When a letter is despatched it should carry such weight that the recipient will not dare to put it out of his hand until he has complied with the order; and if it is known that anyone has not regarded such an order with due respect or has neglected to present himself with instant obedience, that person must be severely punished, even if he is one of the king’s intimates. The difference between the king and other men, such as assignees, is that his writ runs.
