ABSTRACT

This chapter is a distillation of reflections over ten years of practice and research in dance movement therapy with children and adolescents in special education. In DMT there is an engagement with bodily movement towards the aim of transformation. This takes place in a symbolic space. Winnicott believes therapy takes place in the overlap of two areas of playing, that of the patient and that of the therapist. This potential play space is that which is between the subjective object and the object which is subjectively perceived, It has to do with ‘two people playing together’ (Winnicott 1971:38) and is very much about doing.
