ABSTRACT
Schlegel considered every literary work of art as an entity comprising form and content. In his translations, he tried to combine the 'objective' and the ' subjective' aspects of translation: fidelity to the source text on the one hand, and creative transformation and naturalization in accordance with the require ments of the target language and readership on the other.
