ABSTRACT

The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries

appeared in Hungarian. The Arabian Nights was translated from French. Almost every decade from 1 860 onwards witnessed the translation of another famous Russian novelist: Turgenev in the 1 860s , Tolstoy in the 1 870s , Dostoyevski in the 1 880s, Chekhov in the 1 890s and Gorky in the first decade of the twentieth century.
