Federation internationale des traducteurs (F IT) The Federation internationale des traducteurs (FIT), also known as the International Federa­ tion of Translators , is a federation of assoctattons , with member organizations spread across five continents. It was founded in Paris in 1953 by Pierre-Franyois CAILLE (FRENCH TRADffiON), a highly regarded liter­ ary and media translator and long-time president of the Societe franyaise des tra­ ducteurs. The founding members were six interpreters ' and translators ' associations from Denmark, France , Italy, Norway, the Federal Republic of Germany and Turkey. Since then, FIT has evolved into a large federation; in 1996 it comprised 74 regular members and 2 1 associate members and continues to grow at a brisk pace.
