ABSTRACT

One of the concepts necessary for the prosecution of our program is the idea of an emergent property. As we noted earlier, it is the notion of emergence that separates systems from heaps and aggregates. Simply stated, the emergent property of a system is a quality of a system that appears as a result of the interaction of the subsystems of which it is comprised. The trick is this: the emergent property can not be predicted from the properties of the individual subsystems. It emerges out of their interactions.
