ABSTRACT

The homoerotic transference-countertransference matrix seems to pose particular difficulties within the broad range of erotic transactions in analysis. Freud (1937), Glover (1955) and Greenson (1967) have stated that, in the analysis of males by male analysts, a major source of resistances are the passive homoerotic wishes towards the analyst. Lester (1985) also emphasizes that passive homoerotic wishes by the female patient directed at the female analyst become an equally important cause of resistance. I would also stress that the countertransference equivalent is a frequent form of counter-resistance in the analysis.
