ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, attention was drawn to the fact that we live in a changing world and that trends in tourism development can be construed as both a response to and, in some cases, an agent of this change. In Part I we are concerned primarily with the former aspect of tourism’s relationship with change. That is, we will focus on cases which highlight how the changes in the broader global environment alluded to in the introduction have affected tourism at the regional, national and local levels, and the public and private sector responses to these impacts.
