ABSTRACT

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), involving the USA, Mexico and Canada, is one of the more recent trading blocs to emerge as part of the global trend towards closer economic ties between neighbouring countries. Created in January 1994, NAFTA is the largest free trade area in the world, with a $6.5 trillion market and 370 million people, as compared to the European Community which has a GDP of $3 trillion and a population of 357 million people.
