ABSTRACT
The first part of this chapter contains a review and discussion of several theoretical models of family functioning. Most of these models contain an implicit assumption that it is impossible to understand psychological problems without reference to social relationships and therefore to the family Evidence supporting this paradigm will be considered in the second half of the chapter.
