ABSTRACT

Birth is an archetypal event that dramatically influences the environment in which it occurs and, in turn, is dramatically influenced by that environment. Birth has major psychological implications because all human beings have experienced it and therefore have an unconscious mental representation of that experience. This gives rise to a multitude of images related to birth and beginnings. The psyche uses these images in an attempt to depict its own origins, and the way we come into the world has great implications for the way we are going to live and deal with beginnings in life.
