Archetypes and complexes

In my view, the observations and points of view of infant research are both revealing and important for the Jungian therapist, especially in their connection with Jung’s theory of the feeling-toned complexes. An integrated knowledge concerning the interactions between infants and their caregivers, and about the resulting “imprinting” in the psyche of the child, provides a highly refined appreciation of the complexes, in the Jungian sense, and how they affect the psyche. Hence such knowledge is, for the psychotherapist, of a value which cannot be easily overestimated.
