ABSTRACT

Landscape architects are faced with many opportunities to integrate esthetic design with human use, enjoyment, and education as well as stewardship of the natural environment. Virtually every site under development must also address issues related to stormwater management, whether by legal mandate or simply for practical reasons. Management of water on-site can be handled with conventional, ugly, and singleminded treatments exemplified by the traditional rock-lined detention basin with a chain-link fence around it, or through attractive landscape water features which invite contemplation while promoting wildlife habitat and water quality.
