ABSTRACT

Self-care is a well developed, yet still evolving, practice in the United States. “Self-care means responsibly taking charge of personal well-being through the application of professional and self-diagnosis, as well as self-recognition of emergent signs and symptoms, the use of conventional and alternative medical modalities (e.g. Rx and OTC drugs and devices, dietary supplements, acupuncture, etc.), and the institution of appropriate life-style changes (e.g. balanced diet, exercise, etc.).” (1, 2).
