ABSTRACT

This book has sought to examine how and why the strategy, structure and culture of multinational corporations in the ASEAN trading sector have changed and continue to change. The past decade – spanning the dawn of this new millennium – has witnessed a confluence of forces leading to the fundamental reappraisal of corporate operations in this emerging and strategically critical region. Among these are the economic meltdown of 1997, the growth in electronic technology, regional market integration, changing levels of education, business process standardization and transparency measures, the rise in “corporate governance,” and targeted political developments.
