ABSTRACT
In the 2001 General Election, Labour’s majority was only slightly reduced, and they seem as secure as ever, but conceivably at some point in the future the Conservatives also will return from their wilderness. Over time the Conservative Party has been the most consistently successful British political party, and even at a low point in 2001 had more actual party members (318,000) than the party in power, Labour (311,000).
