ABSTRACT
In many cases it is not the parent compound itself that confers toxicity on a cell, but rather one or several of its metabolites. This chapter deals with the mechanisms of formation of such reactive metabolites from pro-toxicants and the consequences of reactive metabolite formation. A large number of enzymes are involved in catalyzing reactive metabolite generation; only a few of them will be highlighted here.
