ABSTRACT
Many of the disagreements about psychoanalysis and its relevance to sociology reflect wider issues about the methodology which is considered to be most appropriate to the study of human actions. It is important to consider some of the main methodological points which affect the ways in which sociologists and social theorists have approached psychoanalysis. But first the criticism that psychoanalysis is unscientific needs mentioning.
