ABSTRACT
the edition of Henry Townshend’s Diary by J.W. Willis-Bund (Worcestershire Historical Society 1915-20) is very dubious, not for its transcription but for the interpretation placed upon the documents by the editor and the occasional misplacing of an entry. Hence in general I have returned to the original sources wherever possible. In each case I have given the reference number to each document which has obtained me the document itself, or that by which it has been labelled. Record offices are however prone to reclassification and I apologise if any reference subsequently proves obsolete.
