Machiavellianism A PERSONALITY characteristic in which a person manipulates others for his or her own gain. The term is named after the political theories of the fifteenth-century Italian statesman and writer Niccolò Machiavelli, whose book The Prince has been used as source material by psychologists in the construction of the MACH-V SCALE.
