One of the most exciting aspects of visiting the outdoors for many people is seeing wildlife, especially unusual or large mammals and birds. As with any facility, places for wildlife observation will need some design consideration and input. One of the best ways to identify and observe wildlife is from a hide where the approach is camouflaged and from which a good, clear view can be obtained. Posters showing the characteristics of the different wildlife can be put on the walls. Wildlife observation can go hand in hand with environmental education in these circumstances, particularly when schools are close by. Viewing platforms can also be constructed that jut out over a river or lake. Hence an attractive alternative is to view wildlife in more natural settings, in circumstances where there is no risk to the animals and birds or to the people who have come to look at them.
