ABSTRACT

For the next of our March 1996 openings, we return to the north of Germany. The date was no accident—the building is a large exhibition hall within the trade fair complex (Plate 18) at Laatzen on the southern outskirts of the city of Hannover—it had to be ready in time for the northern hemisphere spring fairs. With a footprint of 25 000m2, Hall 26 has the largest floor area of what is reputed to be the largest trade fair site in the world (some 2 million m2 all told). This particular site was selected to hold the World Exposition in 2000—EXPO 2000 for short.
