ABSTRACT

Remaining in the southern hemisphere, but closer to sea level and at 34°S, well outside the tropics, we move on to Sydney, the capital city of the State of NSW, Australia. The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is one of four universities located there, and the Red Centre building forms the first phase of its Science Precinct Development, housing the Faculty of the Built Environment, the School of Mathematics and the International Students Centre. The 150m-long, six-eight-storey, 16 000m2 floor area building was first occupied in 1996. It faces north over one of the main pedestrian routes, running from ANZAC Parade on the west edge of the campus, all the way to the new Scientia Building and Central Square which form the completed second phase of this development.
