ABSTRACT

In vivo studies enable toxicologists to make predictions for the safety of xenobiotics in man and other species, and in this book we will be concentrating on laboratory tests used in safety evaluation studies with animals. To predict risk factors associated with the test compound(s), data from clinical chemistry tests require interpretation and integration with the other data obtained from toxicological studies. In our discussions, we will not be including clinical toxicology which may be defined as the analysis of drugs, heavy metals and chemical agents in body fluids and tissues (relating to the management of human or animal medicine), nor shall we be dealing with aspects of forensic toxicology and the related subject of analytical toxicology.
