ABSTRACT

Yugoslav as national identity has been defined through its own negation and marked with prefixes ex, former, post. Dino Mustafi, who directed Born in YU, comes from Bosnia and is one of the leading figures in the regional theatre scene. The memories of Yugoslavia that some of the actors of Born in YU shared on the stage of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre were not much different from the author even if they belonged to a different generation. This chapter is based on a shared repertoire of codes of Yugoslavia's micro history from songs and children's games to references to major cultural figures and events. The event involves an actor from Born in YU, Mirjana Karanovi, film director elimir ilnik and authors Ante Tomi, Miljenko Jergovi and Muharem Bazdulj. Their dialogue was a public rethinking of Yugoslavia, exploring its social and political legacy.
