ABSTRACT

While the various approaches to heredity in terms of degeneration have led to an abundant literature from researchers dealing with the history of mentalities, culture or politics, they have rarely attracted the interest of historians of science and medicine even though they dominated medical thought about hereditary transmission for over fifty years.
