ABSTRACT
Always take a quick but matter-of-fact sexual history: an excellent screening question is: ‘When did you last have sex with someone different?’ Advise the sexually active of all ages about minimizing their risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Besides ‘selling’ monogamy on medical grounds it is essential to promote the condom as an addition to the selected contraceptive whenever infection risk exists – the so-called Double-Dutch approach.
