Differences in culture and history may produce some differences in the manifestations of domestic abuse; however, there is no evidence to indicate a greater presence of wife battering in any one community, ethnic group, or class category. According to the Hotline, this resistance on the part of other Koreatown organizations toward KWH stemmed from the fact that KWH members endorsed an alternative model of family unity that challenged the traditional patriarchal and hierarchical Confucian definition of a stable and healthy family.
