ABSTRACT
William Winstanley (1628–90) was, according to Anthony à Wood, at one time a barber, but though he forsook the razor he kept the scissors, ‘for he borrowed without stint, and without acknowledgement’. He was an inveterate compiler of biographical and historical matters.
