ABSTRACT
With the publication and expansion of Bronfenbrenner’s structural model of the
environment (Bronfenbrenner 1989, 1999), there has been an increasing
recognition by developmental researchers that parent-child transactions are
imbedded in a complex hierarchical environmental structure composed of
multiple linked, intersecting layers. This structure is documented in Fig. 3.1.
