ABSTRACT

Litsa Anthis’ account of her work with a man struggling to make sense of his feelings and urges, which he saw as being incongruent with a monogamous relationship, is a wonderful example of how even the simplest problems can result in challenging work. Litsa’s remarkable ability to express her ideas and values makes this a model process report. This case takes readers on a journey and allows them to identify key therapeutic moments through the eyes of both the client and the therapist. Litsa’s description of cognitive therapy, the approach she adopts for her work with this client, provides testament to her commitment to the scientist practitioner approach. She makes a point of using primary sources as well as more recent critiques and analyses of the approach and makes an effort to draw on the core CBT themes throughout the report in order to justify her interpretations. Her formulation and treatment plan are well thought out and substantiated and she consistently grounds her analysis of her practice within the therapeutic model which she adopts.
