ABSTRACT

When writing a case study, one of the most difficult things to decide is how to integrate the most relevant aspects of the client’s experience without minimising the importance of the therapist’s own process. This is what I think Janet Penny does very well. In her discussion of her work with a 10-year-old boy, Kieran, she makes reference to the fact that our clients often elicit incongruent feelings within us and that the recognition of those feelings is an important part of both the establishment of the working alliance and our development as therapists.
