The organisation of everyday living space
The new interpretation of the Zwischenstadt and the efforts to make it readable and intelligible must be proved in daily existence. In the large ‘unleashed’ city areas of the Zwischenstadt, daily life characterised by Touraine as between the extremes of ‘the globalisation of the economy’ and ‘cultural orientation to a place’, must be organised differently than in the traditional compact city. According to Touraine, the unresolved problems of the Zwischenstadt reside primarily in the organisation of the spheres of activity between the orientation towards a personal place and abstract employment in the global context. They cover the social, ecological and cultural perspectives.
