ABSTRACT
Up to now we have talked about ‘the word X’, where X is some underlined word-form, but we have been living dangerously because, as we shall see shortly, the concept ‘word’ is rather confusing. Or rather, the word word is confusing, because it has (at least) three different senses which we need to sort out in order to avoid hopeless muddle.
