Once a week frequency with Modern Kleinian Therapy
Most patients seen by psychoanalysts choose to attend once or twice a week and may or may not use the analytic couch. Often, these are individuals suffering from long-term personality conditions with severe internal confl icts in the realm of either paranoid-schizoid (Klein 1946) or depressive (Klein 1935, 1940) phantasy. Modern Kleinian Therapy is a hybrid of the elements that comprise contemporary Kleinian psychoanalysis. The technical approach is the same but the analyst is aware of the increased resistance and counter-transference strain that occur with a reduction in frequency.
