ABSTRACT
Sound design is one of the most fundamental elements in the creation of electronic dance music. The sounds programmed and employed will often determine the genre as well as the quality of the music. Indeed, poor sound design is the main contributing factor that separates an amateur production from a professional one. If time, experience, knowledge and effort are not put into the initial design of all the timbres the fi nal record will inevitably suffer.
Generally, sound design can be divided into three distinct categories: audio design, synthesis design and processing/effects chain order. Although all three methods can be mixed and matched to produce the fi nal results, the most complex, yet most important of these is basic synthesis.
