ABSTRACT

Armed with the theory of mixing, you can approach a mix on a more practical level, but before a mix is approached, you should fi rst ensure that both the listening environment and the speaker monitors are up to the job. Indeed, the fi rst step to creating any great mix isn’t down to the effects or type of EQ or compression employed, but to ensure that you can actually hear what’s going on in the mix. After all, if the room or the monitors are not providing a true impression, then you can’t mix reliably. Both the room you monitor in and the loudspeaker monitors must be dependable.
