ABSTRACT

When the merit-rating scheme had been in operation for three and a half years, the Merc factory was studied by researchers from the Medical Research Council's Group for Research in Industrial Psychology. The research study of the Merc factory was carried out in the course of a wider survey. The researchers gathered information from the factory's records, and from individual interviews with managers, supervisors and workers. They felt that they received friendly and interested co-operation from all levels of the factory's employees.
